Living in 3-D in DE!

May 10, 2012

I left on March 20th to meet past NC state officer Alycia McLamb to go on an adventure I had been looking forward to all year, the Delaware State Convention! I had been invited at the beginning of my state officer year to come and celebrate the many accomplishments that the FFA members of Delaware had over the past year. During my three days there I experienced so many new things, and was inspired by so many new and old friends in agriculture. The first day was filled so many members that wanted to make a difference to others, so we took off to do a day of service at the Delaware food bank and at local schools to help young kids learn about agriculture and plant their very own plant. After a very productive day we went back to the university’s campus to kick off state convention at the first session. With over 500 members, the auditorium was filled with excitement. The next day was all about CDE’s and sessions, from Parliamentary Procedure to retiring addresses. We were surprised that night with the presence of last years’ past national officer Wyatt Dejong and this years’ national president Ryan Best. After a long night of catching up and hanging out, it was time to hit the hay for an early morning on the last day of convention. The morning was loaded with fun, informal workshops presented by visiting state officers and national officers from all across the country. Alas, then it was time for the last session where we heard the retiring address of the state president, the results of all the weeks CDE’s and, most importantly, the election of the upcoming years state officer team! After hanging out and then saying our goodbyes, Alycia and I left for home. This trip was, without a doubt, a highlight of my year that helped me become a better advocate for agriculture and gave me new friendships that will last me a lifetime!
