Virginia Farm Bureau Conference

December 6, 2011

On November 29, I had the chance to travel to the annual Virginia Farm Bureau Conference, which was held in Norfolk, Virginia this year. The theme for the conference was Ag Trade: Growing Opportunities. The Virginia Farm Bureau has been a big supporter of Virginia FFA. They help members like you through scholarships and support of Proficiency Awards.

My teammates and I had the opportunity to listen to a speech by J.J. Keever, who talked about the Virginia Port Authority and how our ports are vital to the agricultural industry. We also had the honor of sitting in on a workshop moderated by Matt Lohr, the Commissioner of Agriculture. The workshop was a panel discussion on the benefits that result from conserving farmland.

I am so thankful for the opportunity I had to attend the annual Virginia Farm Bureau. It is encouraging to see the opportunities that are available after involvement in the FFA, the Virginia Farm Bureau being one of them. This year we have had the chance to learn about agriculture throughout the entire state, from cotton and peanuts in eastern Virginia to broilers and apples in northern Virginia. I have truly been blessed to meet people who have a true passion for agriculture and are working hard each and every day to see a bright future for the industry. The 150,000 members in Virginia Farm Bureau take pride in their work and continue to tell their story of agriculture.
